Brazilian exchange Mercado Bitcoin and Bity, another Brazilian crypto platform, have signed an agreement allowing Bity's clients to transfer to Mercado Bitcoin's platform, in a further step in the consolidation of Brazil's digital asset market.
From Friday (2 October), Bity clients will be able to transfer their cryptocurrency and Brazilian real balances to Mercado Bitcoin. The migration of crypto balances can be completed until 29 November 2026.
Following the transfer, users gain access to the products and services offered by Mercado Bitcoin, including crypto asset trading, tokenised investments, credit and payment solutions.
The agreement also provides for specific benefits for those who join the migration, such as an extended zero-fee period on cryptocurrency purchases and sales, special terms on tokenised fixed income products, staking, and dedicated support for clients with larger volumes in custody.
According to a statement, clients will receive instructions through Bity's official channels and, once their Mercado Bitcoin registration is approved, their new account will hold the same balance in reais and crypto assets they previously held.
Market consolidation under way
The agreement comes amid a series of changes in the Brazilian cryptocurrency market. In September, Mercado Bitcoin and Bitso announced a partnership under which Bitso's retail clients in Brazil began investing through Mercado Bitcoin's platform. Coinext also directed its clients to Mercado Bitcoin after deciding to wind down its operations in the country.
For Roberto Dagnoni, chairman and CEO of Mercado Bitcoin, the new partnership reinforces that trend. "This agreement, together with other recent moves, strengthens our role in the consolidation of the sector. Our commitment is to ensure Bity's clients have a simple and secure transition," he said.
Bity has operated since 2018, offering financial solutions involving crypto assets, and runs the Bitypreço platform and the Bitybank app. The company also has a proprietary trading arm, which is currently its main area of focus.
"Our priority has always been to offer our clients the best possible experience. By choosing Mercado Bitcoin, we are aiming to ensure a smooth transition so they can keep investing with confidence," said Valdiney Pimenta, founder and CEO of Bity.
Mercado Bitcoin says it has 4.5 million clients and 13 years of operation. The company, founded in 2013 as a cryptocurrency exchange, has in recent years expanded into areas such as tokenisation, credit, stablecoin payments and financial infrastructure.
Tightening regulation also forms the backdrop to this process. With new requirements from Brazil's central bank, the Banco Central do Brasil, for virtual asset service providers, companies in the sector have been reviewing their strategies, operating structures and presence in the country, a shift that has accelerated deals, exits and reorganisations in the Brazilian market.
