Ondo Finance Brings BlackRock-Designed Portfolios Onchain for Non-US Investors

Ondo Finance launched a new product on September 24 called Ondo Intelligent Portfolios, tokenizing investment strategies designed by BlackRock for eligible investors located outside the United States. The offering runs on Ethereum and BNB Chain and is restricted to authorized jurisdictions, a structure that will draw particular attention from European investors accustomed to being excluded from similar US-focused tokenization products.

The launch consists of three portfolio tokens: Ondo High Income (BLKHIon), Ondo Diversified Growth (BLKDIGon) and Ondo High Growth (BLKGRWon). Each token is backed by instruments issued by Ondo Global Markets, while the tokenization process itself is executed by Ondo Finance on the Ethereum network.

In a statement, Ondo Finance described the significance of the launch. "The three portfolio tokens launched today are based on portfolio strategies driven by BlackRock, developed by BlackRock for Ondo, marking the first time eligible investors on the network can access exposure to such strategies through a single token," the company said.

Early scale remains modest

Data from the RWA.xyz tracker shows the product's footprint immediately after launch was still small. BLKHIon held $993,712 across 13 holder addresses, making it by far the largest of the three tokens. BLKGRWon held $250,174 across 8 addresses, and BLKDIGon held $249,802 across 9 addresses. In total, the three tokens accounted for about $1.49 million spread across 30 wallets.

Those figures place Ondo Intelligent Portfolios firmly at an early stage, with concentration in a small number of addresses rather than broad distribution. Whether the product scales beyond its initial holder base will depend on adoption among eligible investors in the jurisdictions where the offer is authorized.

Extending an existing relationship

The launch builds on an existing tie between Ondo Finance and BlackRock. Ondo previously issued OUSG, a token backed by BlackRock's BUIDL fund, which itself invests in short-term US Treasury bonds. That product established a template for tokenizing BlackRock-linked instruments through Ondo's infrastructure, and Intelligent Portfolios extends the same approach from a Treasury-backed product to portfolio strategies covering income, diversified growth and high growth objectives.

For European investors tracking the tokenization of traditional finance products, the restriction to non-US eligible investors is the detail that stands out. Unlike many tokenized Treasury or money-market products that have targeted US markets first, this launch is explicitly structured for jurisdictions outside the United States, which may include parts of Europe depending on local authorization requirements still to be clarified by Ondo.
