Coinbase used Token2049 in Singapore on October 6 to confirm that Coinbase Pro, the exchange's professional trading platform retired several years ago, will return by the end of 2026. The relaunch sits inside a broader restructuring of the company's trading business, built around Deribit, the options exchange Coinbase bought for approximately $2.9 billion in August 2025.
The combined venue will be called Coinbase Global Exchange and is meant to offer spot, futures, perpetuals and options trading from a single platform. For European traders who already use Coinbase and have grown accustomed to going elsewhere for options exposure, the integration of Deribit's order book matters directly: it is the largest crypto options exchange in the world, with open interest in bitcoin options exceeding $30 billion as of September 30 and trading volume above $1 trillion over the past year.
Coinbase said options trading, spot margin and unified wallets tied to Deribit will arrive in the coming weeks. Spot margin will go up to 10x on major assets and up to 5x on others. In the United States, institutional clients will reach Deribit's products through Coinbase Prime, with retail access promised later this year.
Migration already underway
The announcement followed, rather than preceded, the operational switch. Coinbase International Exchange clients were migrated onto Deribit on October 1, five days before the public statement, and the International Exchange platform is now read-only. Coinbase framed the move in ambitious terms: "For the first time in market history, we are connecting US and international derivatives markets in a single liquidity pool."
The company's official account summarised the sequence of changes on X: "We've been busy. → Deribit, the world's largest crypto options exchange, is now part of Coinbase → Soon, a first: US + global derivatives in one regulated liquidity pool → Next: options, spot margin + unified portfolios And Coinbase Pro returns later this year."
Catching up with rivals
The all-in-one menu Coinbase is assembling, spot, futures, perpetuals and options under one roof, already exists at Binance and OKX, both of which built out derivatives and options offerings well before Coinbase's Deribit purchase. The Pro relaunch and the Global Exchange rebrand amount to an attempt to close that gap rather than to introduce an entirely new product category.
For now, the firm has given no date more precise than "end of 2026" for the full Pro relaunch, and no detail on pricing, geographic availability or regulatory status in individual European jurisdictions. Options, margin and wallet features tied to Deribit are the near-term items, with Coinbase pointing only to "the coming weeks" for their rollout.
