BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, has continued to expand its bitcoin holdings through its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), with net purchases totalling $1.57 billion over the past 30 days. The accumulation includes a single-day purchase of $195.6 million on October 2, according to data tracked by Arkham Intelligence.

The fund's buying pattern has not been evenly spread. Between August 18 and 25, IBIT recorded six consecutive days of inflows exceeding $1.5 billion in cumulative terms, a stretch that included its largest single purchase in more than six months. On August 21, the fund acquired roughly 6,930 BTC, valued at $535 million at the time.

IBIT's assets under management stood at $67.589 billion as of October 2, cementing its position as the largest spot bitcoin ETF currently trading in the market.

Broader ETF inflows

The fund's accumulation has unfolded against a backdrop of sustained demand across the wider US spot bitcoin ETF category. According to data from SoSoValue, these products took in $3.52 billion in net inflows during August, described as the second largest monthly total since October 2025. September followed with a further $2.65 billion in net inflows.

That institutional appetite coincided with a recovery in bitcoin's price. The asset rose 25.1% in August, closing the month near $78,550. September brought a further gain of about 7%, with bitcoin surpassing $86,000 again near the end of the period.

Reading the numbers

For European investors tracking institutional flows into bitcoin, IBIT's scale is notable on its own terms: a single fund now holding nearly $68 billion in assets, built in large part through sustained net buying rather than one-off allocations. The pattern of concentrated buying days, such as the six-day stretch in August and the October 2 purchase, suggests BlackRock has been willing to add meaningfully to its position during periods of market strength rather than solely on dips.

The monthly ETF inflow figures from SoSoValue indicate that IBIT's activity sits within a wider trend across US spot bitcoin products, rather than standing apart from it. Whether that demand continues at a similar pace into the final quarter of the year remains to be seen, but the scale of the past month's purchases marks one of the more concentrated periods of institutional accumulation recorded for the fund.
